My First Re-Upholstered Chair

I bought this chair for $15 from someone at a storage unit auction in hopes of it being my first large re-upholstery project.  I have done a few dining chair seats before but that's not too hard, I've never done anything this large before and I was excited to get started!  Of course I let it sit in the basement for almost a year before I even touched it.  My dad kept asking if he could burn it!  He does love to burn things.  I didn't let him because I knew this chair could be great and if I messed up then he could burn it.
The orange, brown, and red stripes were not very attractive but I liked the shape of the chair.  I read all sorts of blog's and how to's on re-upholstering chairs and got to work.  First I ripped off all the nasty old fabric.  After tearing everything off the chair looked like this.
It's a naked chair!  At this point my dad was skeptical if I could ever put the chair back together again.  It is just so bare!  I decided to paint it black and distress it.  For the fabric I decided to use a grain sack for the back and then I found a fabric the looked similar to the grain sack for the rest of the chair.  Now here is the finished product.

I think I did a pretty good job for my first chair ever!  My dad thinks it looks great and he doesn't want to burn it anymore.  Now I have to list it on craigslist and hope someone else likes it as much as I do.  Onto my next chair project!

  1. I think you did a great job on this chair! I have one that I will be tackling this weekend, and I've never done it either! So this really gives me confidence!
